Here's a Tiktok/Reel I made about when I was researching Roman lamps. Before looking it up I assumed the Ancient Romans used torches, they did, but lamps were their main source of lighting. Not only that, but clay lamps similar to the ones shown existed all the way back into the bronze age, and evidence of the earliest lamps goes all the way back to 70,000BC. (these really old ones were stones and shells, not clay)
